Titus Agbara (Nigeria/England)

Titus Agbara was born in Lagos 1974. He attended the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi 1994 up until 1999 achieving his Higher National Diploma in Painting and General Art

After graduating, he served his native Nigeria in 2000/2001. Since then has been fulfilling his destiny as a full-time artist. He has to his credit many group shows, private commissions and solo exhibitions in Africa and abroad and has participated in art residency with Professor Ablade Glover and with Kofi Setordji under the sponsorship of Ford Foundation

He defines Art as man’s quest for the truth either consciously or unconsciously done. It is inexhaustible. The quest for the never ending truth is what he called individualistic tendency. With this, through the exploration of colours and texture, he hopes to convey a strong sense of emotion with the ever changing mood and voice of his inner mind which constantly surprises and inspires him. Titus has particular interest in painting landscapes and sceneries. His painting technique is elaborate and distinguishable. There is honesty and sincerity expressed in his pieces. He paints with a palette knife, mostly in oil but also water colour and pastel. Titus view life as one great adventure, travelling is his passion, and he loves to create works to share with the world which he believes in some way will impact society and inspire goodness in humanity. He is a member of the Society of Nigerian Artist, and Quatrain Group of Artist

SHALLMAN QUASHIE (Ghana/England)

It has been an incredible journey in my life as an artist and I believe the real journey has just begun. I was born in Accra the capital town of Ghana in West Africa. As a little boy growing up, I found myself always drawing on the cover of my note books and on the walls both in school and at home. Throughout my secondary school days I always made sure I was always the best in my art class.  Since my teenage years my aim as an artist has always been to fill the canvas or paper with life and energy so as to put the viewer in a state of disbelieve and in a mental journey or a state of trance and not for the remuneration offered for it because a good painting is priceless. My Paintings defies easy categorization because I prefer to move freely from painting a very simple still life to a complicated abstract work depending on my inspiration at the time and where the muse kisses me. I see art (painting, music, poetry, sculpture etc.) as a means of self-expression, freedom, life and imagination. My current paintings all contain what I call “imagery of a more adult palette” and navigate my own personal journey as an artist. When I start my painting I’m full of enthusiasm, but after a few days it becomes an internal struggle to complete it to my satisfaction. Thus starts the turmoil and the real painting begins to emerge.

Peter Akinwumi (Nigeria)

Akinwumi Peter got his basic training from his Mother, who was trained by her elder brother, one of Ghana's early Art Teachers, in the person
of late Professor Emmanuel Azi Akator. He worked with several Artists & galleries, from 1982 till 1990, when
he gained admission to the
University of Benin, for a degree programme. Peter was commissioned by his Royal Highness, Oba Sikiru Adetona, the
Awujale of Ijebu-land, to execute sculpture murals, portraying "the image
of the Ijebu Culture" and the Yoruba race in general. This project,
which lasted two years, is perhaps the largest collection of concrete sculpture relief’s, single-handedly executed by a contemporary Nigerian
Artist, in any Royal palace. On graduating from the University, he took up the challenge, to revive Repose Art which was already going into extinction and wasn’t fully included in the Art curriculum of High Institutions of learning in Nigeria
. He developed his own technique which he calls the
"Dot-Beaten” process. This eventually gave birth to "Dot-Beaten Metal” asa name for his medium.

Aized Erebor (Nigeria)

My name is Aized Erebor. I was born on the 27th of June 1981.  I am the only child of my parents. I was raised and schooled in Benin City, Edo State (then Bendel State), Nigeria.  I have been drawing from early childhood. I think I began drawing before I learnt how to write because unlike writing, drawing is not restricted to letters, words or languages. Anybody anywhere can appreciate a good drawing, but you have to have some form of education to be able to appreciate a good write up. I love images a lot and I love to freely express myself through them. I have worked in pencils (graphite), pen and ink, watercolour and pastels. I write too, I love writing a lot, I prefer writing to talking. I had no formal training in Art. I’m what people call a self-taught or a self-trained artist. I bought a lot of Art books and magazines over the years to enhance my Art knowledge. I never went to Art school, thanks to my parents who never encouraged my Art dreams or any of my dreams at all. They had their own dreams for me.

 Edward Ofosu (Ghana)

Edward Ofosu Born in Ghana
I am a self-taught artist. From the age of eight I knew I would be an artist. I wanted to paint as a career but was encouraged by my family to study science. By 1997 I could no longer ignore my creative passion so I started doing it on my own, learning from magazines and other painters' work. I feel it has been a great gift to love and be able to paint and all I can do is to commit to it

Throughout the years I have improved and acquired a state of inner peace and a desire to share my inner beauty with the world and convey the importance of communing with our soul through my work. My works are versatile, I like experimenting with various mediums and forms of artwork.  Most of my earlier works were portraits , but at the moment am expressing in my work a more abstract dimension with figuratives. I moved to London six years ago and I have been part in few exhibitions listed below.

 Fanta Celah

Fanta Celah’s remarkable journey as a painter began at an early age. Owing to her deep affinity for the Arts, Fanta studied her craft with avid dedication, and sold her first commissioned work by age 15. Shortly thereafter, Fanta became the youngest Chicago-based artist on the scene. She is featured in Chicago’s Who’s Who 2009 Edition. She has also garnered a multitude of private commissions and gained a respectable following of art lovers worldwide. Her paintings appeal to the intellectual art lover seeking deeper meaning, as well as those who are interested in collecting impressionistic work.

Fanta’s compositions range from abstract to portraiture. She especially enjoys painting landscapes and seascapes. Her bold expressive style is reminiscent of Gustav Klimt, and her work has been compared to Monet. Some of her close contemporaries are some of the most acclaimed African artists in the US today, Tafa & Dayo Laoye.
Fanta’s brilliant use of color induces the higher senses. Through her naturalistic work, you can smell the salt water and enjoy the sunrise from the comforts of your living room. Additionally, she has an extraordinary understanding of how to use texture. Her experimentation with materials such as copper achieves a unique, three dimensional affect on canvas.

Although Fanta constantly aspires to be aesthetically on point, her ultimate goal is to touch people inwardly, to inspire them, to heal. “In my work, I strive to document and crystallize positive feelings and healing energy” she explains.
Fanta also has a strong interest in preserving the earth. A self-described “green artist,” Fanta works with oil and acrylic, but prefers to utilize recyclable materials such as mangos and dehydrated citrus peels whenever possible. Fanta’s art is interwoven with her personal mission to maintain respect for the earth and its natural resources.
Fanta’s extensive artistic capabilities have opened up further windows of opportunities. In between showings, Fanta travels across the country showcasing her amazing singing talent and dynamic jewelry designs. A wonder to behold, Fanta’s large body of work features an identifiable, brilliant energy and light.

To date, Fanta Celah’s work has appeared in South Side Art Center 2001,  The Museum of Science & Industry 2003, South Shore Cultural Center; Chicago, US 2001, 2005, African Festival of the Arts; Chicago, US 2002-2006

CONCEPT WORK

Movement 'MASS CULTURE "make all things and in synergy to form a human object, human subjects are seen as' nodes' of various things personal, popularity and even powers, which manifest themselves in every human subject. Sharpness analysis of the myth of mass culture is needed, whether it's about deminsi myth of mass culture (concepts, images, and a form) or too mutif from the myth of mass culture (political-ideological). Because that's in the works I present various examples of cultural myths surrounding the mass and analysis, with the hope that communities are able to release the shackles of the myth of mass culture that lately more and more strong and subtle.

 Ade Ogundimu

Ade Ogundimu’s paintings are about life in general, His paintings explore the range of daily human life, concerned as much with life’s ironies and social injustices, as with its many joys. He paints what he can identify with, real situations.

He attended the world renowned Yaba Art School and majored in Painting. Also read design and Photolithography at the University of the Arts London (London college of Printing) and as a natural course progression went back to read Printing in the same institution. He later studied at Oxford University reading Pop Art,  as taught by Ann Stieglitz .His exposure to Professor Grillo and Mr. Kolade Oshinowo. at the School of Art Yaba kindled within him a love of impressionism that would shape his work for the rest of his life. Over the years Ade has participated in many group shows in which he has won awards. He thinks of art as a personal and deep expression of one’s own ideas.

His work explores the poetry of texture, of shape, of color and light that envelop us everyday. His  skills, and choices, are such that looking at his paintings reminds us, in a profound way, how much beauty and meaning can be found in our own lives.

He is particularly noted for his dramatic use of brushwork and colour.  As a nature lover and avid outdoors person, Ade collects information for his large studio paintings both through plein air studies and photos.  After the initial layout and composition design, he prefers to set all source materials aside and just allow the painting to tell him where it wants to go. He has also successfully married traditional African Painting with the contemporary genre. His native series is testimony to this.

Adedayo Laoye

Adedayo was born to the royal family of Oba Adetoyese Laoye, The Timi of Ede.  This famous Yoruba King toured throughout Europe in the 1960’s with the traditional Yoruba talking drum and instilled in Dayo a strong belief and conviction for this culture and traditional values. With the support of his parents, Dayo was able to spend his childhood pursuing his strong interest in art and drawing.  He has this memory of his youth in Nigeria, and I can remember vividly drawing things that I saw on T.V. such as the Flintstones, Cowboys and Indians on horseback, and of course soldiers in their uniforms.  While my friends in the neighbourhood rode bicycles or played ball, I was always sitting in a corner drawing.  Although this made me a “good boy” to my parents, it affected my sports and leisure life and how I related with my other young friends.

Dayo later worked on portraiture using as subjects his fellow students, teachers, and special guest to the school. A graduate of School of Fine Art, Yaba College of Technology, he worked for the Nigerian Television Authority, various advertising agencies as a graphic artist and two national newspaper as a political cartoonist.  In 1988 while studying at Howard University, Washington, D.C., he became acquainted with contemporary African-American art and its search for a link with the past.

It was during this time that Dayo began to explore the very meaning of the tradition in which he was born.  Much of Dayo’s work therefore reflects his Yoruba tradition. He is currently working on a series of paintings – The People’s Choice – inspired by the political process going on in America today.  Also, he is working on a series of paintings – Negritude – celebrating the diversity of beauty in the African-American culture.  Dayo has been exhibiting for the last 25 years.  He has a studio on Chicago’s south side. My work in recent years has focused primarily on the African presence in the Americas;  the continued tradition or African cultural influence in the new world.  Specifically, celebrating the Yoruba culture in the new world is my goal.  Although, I was academically trained, my work now is stylized.  I’m inspired and influenced by the styles of African artists, such as Yoruba carvers, clothe weavers/dyers, potters, and griots.  Celebrating our music, dance, motherhood, politics, and spirituality is my main objective.
